There is no separate ship button. The mount key reads your position.

Jump, then press the key, if you own a flying mount and have only seen the ground one.
Three ways in
Wild mounts appear on small floating islands after a blue chat alert. Interacting with an unclaimed mount was described as a guaranteed tame. If chat says another player is already claiming it, that island is gone. Change servers instead of racing a lost claim.
Shops sell mounts and boats for currency. That is the reliable first purchase when the AFK reward has not hit.
AFK rewards were called the fastest early mount, with a low chance and a one-time unlock per account. After it unlocks, it leaves the pool.
A practical order
Take the AFK mount or buy a ground mount first so raids are reachable. Buy a ship before you start chasing 15-minute dungeon portals across water. Hunt wild spawns for a flying mount when you can leave a fight on the alert.
Older codes COFFIN and DRAGONBLUE were a coffin boat and a blue dragon mount in April 2025. They are not on the current official description. Do not plan a route around them.
Halloween also lists a shadow mount among event drops. That is separate from the wild-island tame.
